Leisure and turism
With this experience you will have the opportunity to discover the traces of one of the most important Jewish communities in Spain. In this tour through the Jewish quarter of Girona, you will learn in detail the history of this community where you will be able to see Roman, medieval and Jewish remains..
We will meet at the indicated time in Sant Feliu Square to start our guided tour of Girona's Jewish quarter, one of the best preserved in Europe. This district, which preserves its original layout, is located in the heart of the city and combines Roman and medieval remains. Popularly known as "el Call", this neighbourhood was home to a thousand inhabitants in the Middle Ages, making it one of the most important Jewish communities in Spain.
As we stroll through the Jewish quarter we will pass by the site of the three synagogues of the city and the place where Moshe Ben Nahman, the Grand Master of the Kabbalah, lived. During the guided tour you will have the opportunity to learn about Jewish customs, the tools they used and the structure of their houses. In addition, we will visit the Museum of Jewish History to learn more about their way of life.
Our guide will lead you through the labyrinthine streets of this district as he reveals various details about the expulsion of the Jews in 1492, an event that put an end to 600 years of coexistence. After three hours strolling through the Call we will have understood the deep imprint that the Jewish community left on the city's history.
